A placement in a European country with Leonardo? 

Social and Health work in France, international law in the Netherlands, public relations in Italy, art and architecture in Spain, science and environment in Ireland, electronics, communication and banking services in Germany or computer science in Denmark... The Leonardo da Vinci program brings you a world of possibilities for learning a trade in a European country. Candidates can use their stay to brush up their knowledge of a foreign language and get a better understanding of the country's culture and socio-economic environment. But above all they acquire or upgrade their qualifications or professional skills with an in-house traineeship lasting several months - an experience abroad which is certain to impress recruiters.

Who can apply?

Leonardo's international placements are open to anyone in a work training or university course in a European country. 

  • For a placement in Switzerland: candidates must be nationals of one of the countries officially participating in the programme or have a residence permit for that country.

  • For a placement in Europe: candidates must have Swiss nationality or a C residents permit. 

A Leonardo placement can be started during your course or up to 12 months after you obtain your degree.

The length of a Leonardo placement is from 2 to 12 month with 80% minimum working hours.

  • Preparation of course project and help in drafting application documents

  • Assistance in finding a working traineeship in Europe and selection of suitable offers

  • Help in formalising the traineeship and administrative follow-up of the application

  • Practical information on acceptance conditions and sending (contract, legal status, social security, etc.)

  • Support in obtaining residence and working permit

  • Help in finding accommodation

  • Under certain conditions, award of course bursaries (fixed lodging allowance, help towards transport costs, help towards costs of linguistic and cultural preparation)

  • Preparation for departure (on line tools, one-day seminar workshops)

  • Contact with other Leonardo trainees

  • Evaluation of the traineeship and guidance on ways of getting the most out of the skills and abilities acquired during the course
